Collection: Crust & Undyed (Russet) Leather
A dried but not yet dyed leather is typically known as crust leather. In the case where the raw leather material has been tanned but not yet finished, a crust leather can be developed to create a spectacularly unique leather with its own distinctive look and feel.
You may recognise it being used for things like insoles, linings and sheaths. Crusting is a crucial part of leather production. Crusting is a process where the hide is tanned, and sometimes re-tanned with a different tannage, resulting in a supple mellow leather. This is all before the final aspect of surface coating or dyeing is applied. Technically, what you're dealing with is a russet leather. This means it's an unfinished, soft, full-grain hide that is traditionally hand dyed.
